DAMS
The Distributed Atmospheric Monitoring System (DAMS) was a combined mass and FTIR spectrometer system to monitor atmosphere on-board UK nuclear submarines. This prototype system successfully completed sea trials in 2012 demonstrating TRL7 and improved performance and reliability over current systems – thereby improving crew safety.
Mark managed the project team for the prototype development and recently managed a further BAE Systems contract to support the handover of this prototype design and expertise to UK industry for the in-service manufacture.

Mark and the project lead scientist, Dr Taff Morgan, were awarded the BAE Chairman’s Silver Award in 2013 for this project – See p31 of this MOD publication:
Mark also managed two contracts to investigate new applications for two novel mass spectrometry techniques (CD-FAIMS and PTR-MS) for BAE Systems.
